How to Teach your Baby to be a Physically Superb

All of us parents would like to do our best in helping our littles ones to learn and experience life to the fullest. Some of us have more time than others. Being at home full time, gives me a chance to check out what’s out their for challenging our children.

I found an interesting set of books and bought most of them (a bit crazy maybe….but I love to read). They were put out by The Institute for the Achievement of Human Potential www.iahp.org or www.gentlerevolution.com

I’m working my way through the book; How To Teach Your Baby To Be Physically Superb: From Birth To Age Six; The Gentle Revolution. This book centers on helping parents believe that children are far more capable than we give them credit for. It offers ideas on how to create an environment that will help the baby (or child from birth to about 6 years) achieve each stage of mobility more easily.

Interesting to me was the idea that newborns move a great deal in their sleep. You know what it’s like to find your baby scrunched against the headboard of the crib/bed. Well, given the opportunity to be in a crawling track, day or night, a baby would able to practice it’s crawling skills and still be close enough to check on and nurse. Newborns are able to crawl a total of one foot the first day after birth, a total of two feet the second day, a total of ten feet the tenth day, and so on.

Why is movement or crawling so important? What’s the big deal?

The answer to that coming soon…
